There's plenty to see, taste, explore and experience in Launceston - sometimes you just need a little help finding it. Launceston is best uncovered chatting to a local and the Launceston Visitor Information Centre is the best place to get the lay of the land before getting started. Get your bearings, pick up some last-minute supplies, book a tour or just get inspired, the team are here to help!
If you're lucky enough to be visiting Launnie on a Saturday, you'll quickly notice a hive of activity as you make your way down Cameron Street towards City Park. If time allows, we'd suggest taking a detour into Harvest Market to get your hands on some of our regions finest produce. Grab a coffee, tour the stalls and experience Launnie like a true local!
On the outskirts of the city you'll be met by City Park, our leafy time capsule of Victorian sensibilities. City Park is an idyllic retreat after your journey to Launceston. Take a stroll through the manicured gardens and the John Hart Conservatory and marvel at the Albert Hall. For the little ones, a walk through the Macaque Monkey Enclosure and past the duck pond is a must. If you spot a miniature Thomas the Tank Engine train be sure to take a ride around the park!
A quick walk across the North Esk River pedestrian and cycle bridge will take you to the Inveresk Precinct, home to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG), University of Tasmania Stadium and Launceston Tramway Museum. A scenic walk along the North Bank Trail will lead you across the river, arriving at Riverbend Park. Launceston's most popular playground, it's an unparalled-all abilities playground adventure! Wander through the trails to uncover the history of our waterways, pop into the Silo Hotel for refreshments or carry on your walking tour across the bridge to the Seaport.
Continue your walking tour across the bridge and towards the cafes, restaurants and bars that dot along the Seaport boardwalk. Stop for refreshments or carry on along the boardwalk, arriving at the pontoon of Tamar River Cruises. Cruises take off daily with a 50-minute, 2.5 or 4 hour cruises to choose from.
Next stop, Launnie's jewel in her crown, the Cataract Gorge. Easily accessed walking along the path from the Seaport and Royal Park. Choose your own adventure - taking on the steep and windy Zig-Zag track or choose the leisurely flat track, across Kings Bridge. Either way the sights are something to marvel! As you enter the Gorge be sure to visit the cafes, chairlift and Alexandra Suspension Bridge.
